Fiber optic is only for sound to and from the tv. HDMI carries both Sound and picture! Depends on your sound system hookup! If you are only using a sound bar then yes! TV to sound bar with fiber optic whatever distance needed! Cable box to tv or Receiver to TV, HDMI is better! Sometimes fiber optic from TV to Receiver if using an Antenna for HD Air TV. If you do not use a good 2 way HDMI cable to your receiver with Air or streaming from the TV then a fiber optic cable for return sound is good! I use a fiber optic cable like that as a back up for return sound (from computer also ) but HDMI is easiest. Wow you have a 82" Q90R! I only have a 65"Q70R but I'm happy but wishing.....
