• If you own a Samsung TV, you do not need to use the app. All of the settings are available on screen. If you do not have a Samsung TV, you can do adjustments from the soundbar buttons and the soundbar's dedicated remote.

• Hi Curious, SmartThings is not required to operate or use the HW-Q990C Soundbar, although it does make it easier as you can see all of the same changes you would make with the remote on your smart device. ~Samsung Solutions
