The camera has to be connected to a power source (outlet). It comes with a very long cord. It connects wirelessly to your internet and you control it through an application. We have never had difficulty connecting remotely when traveling. We have lost service to our internet and been able to reconnect later without any rebooting required.

It needs a power cable. It can run off of USB for power, so if you had a portable USB charger, it would be near wireless.
