How sensitive is the motion detector? I want to point it out a window towards my yard. Can it detect motion up to 50 feet away in the yard?

you can set your motion detection to 100% and that means every spec of dust or insect that flies through the camera view triggers a recording

It is very sensitive. I have a camera set up in my garage. When the main door is open, it will be triggered by cars driving past, day or night. During daytime people walking on the sidewalk will trigger it. To prevent this, I have set the trigger window on the display so that it only triggers when something moves in the garage or driveway but not on the street or sidewalk.

I have not tested the full range in night-vision mode, but I know that it is very sensitive for objects that are close to the IR illuminator. Even with the sensitivity set at minimum, I still get false triggers when a moth flies within a few feet of the camera in night mode.

The microphone is sensitive enough that I can often hear the conversations of pedestrians on the sidewalk. Even at the minimum sensitivity and the door closed, a garbage truck or loud car can trigger the audio event.

Sensitivity, including multiple areas of detection can be selected and modified through the setting controls on your cell phone - even remotely. However, as with any motion sensor, windows interfere and render the device unreliable. Consider the Samsung Outdoor HD camera - it was recently on sale at a few dollars more than the Indoor cam. I prefer this one over the Indoor cam even for indoor use. They each have recording and remote playback capabilities but the Outdoor cam's SD card is seperate from the camera which makes it more secure from vandalism. The mount on the Outdoor cam is also better.

Very sensitive. Actually need to turn off movement sensor because it picks up everything that moves, not just your subjects.
