“Are the physical buttons on top of the player suppose to work? Play, pause, stop, etc. Nothing happens when I press them. Are they just for show? No power light comes on either. All functionality has to be done through the remote.”

I have just the opposite problem. I have to work the buttons on the player and use a flashlight to see the buttons. Remote doesn't work. Also the audio doesn't work when I play a dvd. It is so soft I can't hear what they are saying even if i keep turning up the volume. I will have to have a technician come out and see if it was installed correctly. I got so frustrated I was ready to take it back. I have a Toshiba tv that I just slide the disk in and the dvd is ready to play. No three sets of remotes.
