Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.I am not familiar with the Samsung 860 series internal, but I know the external Samsung T5 does NOT use a fan to dissipate heat. There is no noise.

Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Mike, there is absolutely no noise. With the new SSD technology, there are no longer any moving parts. Your old ext hard drive probably had noise due to the physical disk spinning at high speeds, around 5200 RPM. Not only will this have less fan noise, it will be more durable. No moving parts means no parts moved around or broken due to bumps and drops. Also the Samsung T5 is wrapped in a very nice aluminum body, which will definitely withstand damage over time.
