• I haven't tried on a mobile device yet, but backed up data from 2 laptops, in order to use encryption you have to download the software. If you dont download it, you can still use device but without encryption.

• Yes, you will need to install the Samsung software in order to use the fingerprint/password features - it’s pre-loaded on the drive so it will be available every time you connect it.
