- Answer Choose to print using "grayscale" in the print dialog. Only the black toner will be used. FYI - I bought a whole set of 4 compatible toners on ebay for $65.

- Answer This printer is a laser printer, therefor no ink is used. Instead toner is used and I don't know the method used to determine when the cartridges are empty.

- Answer Best Buy ships via UPS so if the student can receive UPS packages then they can receive this printer. Although it will come in a box that clearly tells everyone who sees it what it is. So you would want to be sure that whoever receives UPS packages can safeguard the package until the student picks it up. ... The box IS heavy so the student might want some help carrying the box if they have very far to go with it.
