Hi there, Thanks for your question. You may or may not need an app depending on your phone. On lightning iPhones, the SanDisk Memory zone app (https://support-en.sandisk.com/app/answers/detailweb/a_id/52507) is required. On USB-C iPhones the drive can be directly used via the Files app: https://support-en.sandisk.com/app/answers/detailweb/a_id/50917 and the Memory zone app is optional.
