It entirely depends upon the make and model of the laptop. Newer, ultrathin laptops don't use the 2.5" drive, so they wouldn't work with this kind of drive. Laptops having optical drives might be the place to start, unless they already have an SSD. Another option would be to look at older used or refurbished laptops that would greatly benefit from (inexpensive) ultrafast storage and perhaps an increase in memory. Actually installing the SSD can be very difficult to quite easy with the right tools. I'm using a 2012 Lenovo T430 because I wanted a laptop that is easy to swap drives, yet is still powerful enough for daily computing. There are tutorials for drive replacement, some including videos, available on the web: use them. Look for a laptop having SATA III drive mounts, preferably with USB 3.0 capability.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Depending on the computer, upgrading the components can range from easy and quick to very difficult with risk of damage to the computer. I would highly reccomend seeing what services the BestBuy GeekSquad offers for this task.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. You can google instructions for imaging your current hard drive to the ssd and there are programs (some free) that do the work for you. So that is not the issue. The issue is can you take apart your laptop and put in the new drive, physically. Some laptops are very easy (i.e. just unscrew the back and take out the old drive and put in the new one, that takes no more than about 15 minutes). Other laptops are very hard to take apart. I suggest you get a service manual for your laptop to learn how easy or hard it is and then make a decision from there.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.I would recommend checking youtube to see if there is a video online about how to swap hard drives for your laptop. There are hundreds of videos online of all types of laptops. You can then see how difficult it is to open the laptop and what it takes to get to the hard drive. Much easier to do when you can watch someone do it first.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. If you don't know about computers ask the Geek squad to do it. You have to clone the current drive before installing or you will have to completely start over with the operating system install and will lose any and all data from the old drive.
