Yes, I definitely would not rely on hollow wall anchors to hang a TV on. NO NO NO! Here's what you can do so you can place your TV wherever you want on any wall BUT this still involves locating studs (which is inevitable really). Why do this?: If you find that using only 2 studs will put your TV too far left or too far right on a given wall, you can screw a 2X4 (with 3 pieces of 3/8 inch by 4-5 inch long lag bolts ) across 3 studs (make sure you have a solid "grab" onto each stud with your 4 to 5 inch lag bolts. Put the the 2X4 right onto the wall over the drywall/plaster where you were planning to mount the TV in the first place, then simply mount the TV mounting bracked to that 2X4. It'll all be hidden by the TV (tip: paint it the same color as the wall) so it works quite well and gives you more flexibility on where you put your TV You may need something different than a 2X4 depending on the orientation of the TV hanger's mounting bracket that you choose. Some of the brackets have holes for the bolts (the ones you will now screw into that 2X4) that are left and right oriented and some are up and down. You'll see what I mean when you get there. I could explain that too but I'm tired. GL!
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.I put them into a stud to be safe. I guess you could use drywall hangers?
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Yes, the bolts need to go into studs. Studs are normally 16" apart. As long as you have lots of wall space, I don't see this as necessarily restrictive. It may need to go either left or right of where you expected to place it. The TV will pull away from the wall and turn left and right. It is a very good and sturdy mount (as long as it is bolted into studs). Whatever you do, you will want two people to mount the TV in place. Hope this helps.
