I don't know for sure about installing this outdoors, but the finish on it doesn't look like it's intended for outdoor use. Metal studs should be plenty strong enough to support a large TV. Just need to use the correct fasteners to mobilize the full strength of the studs. We have this installed in our living room, and it works great.
