I mounted on dry wall and it stayed there for a year until I took it down to move. I had no problems with instability or damaging the wall. It comes with all the hardware you need, but you will need your own stud finder and I highly recommend a power drill. I had to buy a ratchet since I didn't have the right size. I recommend the tutorial videos.
