Will this mount attach to studs that are 48" apart? null

I didn't run into that spacing, but I don't think it will reach. You can however use this mount without going into the studs if you use the right hardware. Go to your hardware store and get toggle snap anchors rated to suit the weight of your TV. I used them on my 75in install into metal studs (which might as well be hallow and not traditional studs).
