Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. The key to lower the stand is plastic and does not seem to engage anything. It is very difficult to push down the extension and it does not matter whether you have the key in and depressed or no key is in the little Keyhole. If you put all your weight on the top in the middle you can forcibly push it down. I contacted support who just read the manual and told me how it was supposed to work. The manual shows a person holding the speaker up while depressing the key. That will never work because there is too much friction between the extension and the outer part of the tube. The person I contacted at the number provided in the manual kept telling me to just push the trigger and push down on the top. If I used enough Force to push down on the top of the Sonos 300 speakers it would crush the upward firing and speaker. You would think that with a known problem Sonos would either recall these stands or reengineer them to work as advertised.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. It's over-engineered garbage. What a terrible, terrible product. To answer your question, if you pull it up just a bit it should loosen up, and then come crashing down when you re-insert the useless "trigger"
