We just used the provided molly screws for dry wall

Yes it does, but it's pretty simple.

I installed mine right into the drywall. The shelf came with drywall anchors, as well as, stud anchors. It's very steady and sits on the wall securely.

I highly recommend bolting into stud if possible.

No!!! Unless your hanging something with significant weight or have lowsy drywall you should be good without anchoring into the studs.

Would be the preferred way to do it.
