“Need to mount 55" TV @45 degree angle as far as possible into a corner, i.e. with edges almost touching walls. Bought it cuz the BB salesman assured me, condescendingly, that of course it could. Before I unpack box, can it really achieve this? Skeptical.”

The only concern I would have would be the placement of the wall studs. There is flexibility in the placement of your mount to have the mount covered by the TV when it is flat mounted on a wall while attaching to the studs. Depending on the stud location it is possible part of the mount will show along the wall on one side or the other of the TV. To allow for the extension and tilt of the TV the mount is pretty thick, but that might or might not show, either. It is very sturdy and holds our TV which is slightly larger than 55". In my search I did not find one that was more versatile than this one and we are very happy with it.
