I put it on a 15-1/2" deep stand and it is fine. I'm hanging over the back almost 2" cause I chose not to have it placed at the front edge of my console. I feel it is very well balanced, the weight is distributed back to front. The part in back is just part of the center support, not key in the mounting part.
