If the tv is tilted forward, then there is some small space near the top about 2 to 3 inches for a small box but I would then worry about lack of air circulation for the cable box. Many tvs have a tapered back so that might be a tight fit. They have usb jacks on most cable boxes that can power a small usb fan for laptops so that might keep the box from overheating.
