Then I'm wondering how close to a ceiling it can be mounted. Can't lift it up and onto the hook if it hits the ceiling first.

Hi,

It can tilt up and down 12°. Below is the link to the pdf of the install manual so you have a visual of how it attaches to your TV and wall.
