I don't have arthritis but my upper leg muscles definitely felt the workout and will take a while to get in shape. I would definitely check with your rheumatologist. Even at the minimal resistance, it requires effort to maintain the momentum (think regular bike at a moderate speed).

You may just have to consult your doctor to develop a routine that’s right for your conditions. Exercise is good for everyone.
