Volume is controlled three ways: The volume on your device, the volume on your FM receiver in your car, and the FM transmitter itself. To change the volume on the transmitter, hold down the skip button. On my FM transmitter, the maximum volume is eight. You should pre-set the volume on your device before it connects to the transmitter to have the maximum control from the device.

I just had to fix my daughters are well.  Yes, before it is connected, turn the knob to the right and hold.  A "V" really looks like a U will appear with a number, mine went up to 30.

Volume is controlled from your car radio or phone.

Make sure the media volume on your phone or other device you are connecting to your car radio is all the way up.. You can then use the Car radio volume control .. If your media volume on your phone is low even turning up the radio volume to full blast will not give you good results.
