if you need a laptop hard drive get a laptop drive, if you need desktop then a desktop drive. Alienware used sata if it was made with windows 7 or 8

So long as you have a working USB port this would be compatible with any laptop.

This drive is compatible with any computer with a standard SATA 1, 2, or 3 slot. SATA is backwards compatible, so this SATA 3 drive will function just fine in a SATA 1 or 2 slot, albeit with slower maximum read/write speeds. It will still be an improvement from a standard HDD
