I am running Windows 7 on my 5 year old Asus laptop and it worked fine. I moved all of my pictures and other files to the backup and deleted all of them on my computer as I was running out of back up space. No problems. There are very few directions included with the Seagate I bought, but I found that I didn't need them anyway.
