This is done via OSX. Goto utilities>disk utility Select the external drive and reformat with whatever setting you desire... When it's finished it should mount with no issues.

Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.U can format this in both file formats, with a partition. That's how I use this drive.... One partition for windows, one for mac. I also purchased the "windows drive" even though I was using it mainly for Mac... The Mac drive is $10 more for nothing. Once you plug in and format, the drive will work for either OS. Seagate trying to snag a few extra bucks by putting the Mac/Apple name on the front of the box, but anyone who knows the minimal about HDDs knows once it's formatted it is what it is! So go for it!

Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.The Macs should be able to use Disk Utility (found in Applications/Utilities) to reformat the drive as XFAT. This ability was introduced with MacOS 10.6, so any Mac laptop using 10.6 or later also should be able to write to the drive.
