This drive is simply assigned to write in mac writing language out of the box but you can plug this into a windows device and it'll work and write NTFS. If you have a mac, you have to download drivers to write NTSF but, if you partition it (which you need to do before you put a back-up on it) you can have back-ups for both macs and windows on this device.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.No reason it shouldn't. The NTFS format is still used. The drive I bought was preformatted for MAC. I reformatted it for Windows 8 using the Disk Management app
