• I've been doing automatic scheduled backups for 3 years with this device. I'm using Acronis True Image backup software to do that. I have no idea about the capabilities of the software included with the drive, because I've never used it.

• You could use it with Time Machine or Carbon Cloner. I haven't found a way to back up on a PC yet.
