• Just if it's a PS4 game that you're playing on your PS5. PS5 games will only play from the internal storage, but PS4 games will play from either. This is regardless of the brand of external HDD you buy.

• If it's specifically a PS5 game, no you cannot play it from the Hard Drive. You'll have to move it to the system storage, which apparently is faster than redownloading the game. If it's a PS4 game, yes you can play it directly from the Hard Drive.
