Yes this works with Windows 10 and yes it backs up music and picture files. And yes you can restore all your document, music and pictures files.

I feel like it works with any laptop or desktop just have to format the hard drive

Yes, it works with windows 10. That what I'm using right now. You could put music, pictures, video, documents, or anything you want to storage.
