Hey, I just called Seagate and asked technical support for that same question. It is like an extended warranty and they send you a pre-paid label to ship it to them and they recover it if they can and return it to you. They have chat options and a phone number to call and get support. I did not get any info from Best Buy and I am not holding them responsible for that. They cannot know every product they sell in that informative capacity. Hope not too late for you to know. I just found out minutes ago.
