I don't own amazon devices and have all mine connected to my smartthings hub rather than their sengled hub. By my knowledge Amazon devices are zigbee compatible out of the box and these bulb are zigbee rather than wifi or z wave which are the other two technologies these smart thing devices can be created so it should work without any hub. If you want to buy the hub, don't remember if Best buy sells the hub alone since I got it in one of the bundles but I do know it exist as a separate product , or you could just get the hub and bulb packs.
