• Yes. Once you remove one of the ear buds, the music pauses for a few seconds, and it continues playing after the brief pause.

• You can't switch them to mono while using both earbuds but most podcasts don't have much stereo separation anyway.

• You can use both earbuds independenly, or just one if you want. So yes, you and your wife can listen to podcasts each one with one earbud!
