• A:Answer The chair tilts back and you can adjust the tension on the tilt. It does not stay reclined like a recliner would, but comes back up when you sit up. Also you can lock it in upright position. It swivels smoothly. So about the finish... it does not smell strongly like leather, but is supple like a softer leather... here is why; it is a leather composite: "Bonded leather, also called reconstituted leather or blended leather, is a term used for a manufactured upholstery material which contains animal hide. It is made as a layered structure of a fiber or paper backer covered with a layer of shredded leather fibers mixed with a polyurethane binder that is embossed with a leather-like texture," according to internet source. So you get a higher end affordable finish without the leather price tag. If you want leather, the best is full grain or top grain and you can find a desk chair for about $1200 and up. This chair is a nice compromise.
