It does very well. I have carpet upstairs, a thick rug, and a shag rug and the top carpet setting easily maneuvered through them.

It has 3 settings - Hard floor, High Carpet and low pile carpet.

We would like to inform you that this vacuum works great on most flooring types. It has 3 flooring settings; Hard Floor, Carpet/:ow Pile, and Thick Carpet/Area Rug. With this being said, we recommend contacting the manufacturer of the flooring to verify compatibility.

Yes, it has 3 settings on handle for hardwood and 2 for carpet.
