• The battery in this unit is an NiMH, not a NiCad.

• The battery is not NICAAD it's NIMH, and it IS replaceable. There are even instructions to replace it in the owners manual. Removed screws, unplug old one, plug in New one, replace screws.

• it is actually not replaceable. it should be, but the casing is built to tight to remove without disassembling the entire unit. then the new battery is about the price of a new machine, so not worth it in my opinion. get new shark with new batteries and new warranty.

• If you know just a bit about DC electricity and batteries, you should be able to replace the battery with ease.
