It tries to vacuum them up, so you will need to put them out of the way or put the strip down for vacuum to avoid that area.

If they are slack or not connected (phone cable for example), it will try to consume them. You will have to be careful not to leave any loose items. Mine has found a few socks and hair bands besides the loose cable.

Depending on how big it is it'll travel right over it or if was like mine, which was a big yellow heavy duty extension cord that was rolled up next to the Christmas tree, it got stuck and couldn't get off till I rescued it.
