Thanks for chiming in 30dollars, To empty the Dust Cup Assembly, Grip carry handle and press the Dust Cup release button to remove Dust Cup Assembly. Or option two For Allergy Sufferers would be to wrap a trash bag around the Dust Cup Assembly leaving space at the bottom for the door to swing open. Best Regards, Customer Service Team

There is a button on top by the canister to release the canister from the vacuum. Then, over a waste bin, push the gray button on the bottom front of the canister to open the dirt bin.
