• Yes. Just turn off the brushes. Sweeping works better but in between sweeping, this vacuum will do.

• Yes it works very well on ceramic floors. We use it on our kitchen floor all the time. We have a yellow lab so we vacuum at least twice a day due to all the shedding. Very happy with my shark.
