I've used the vacuum to help clean up after I broke a glass on a hard floor (I picked up the larger pieces and used the vacuum to get the small stuff). The "dust cup" (canister) was already partly filled with dirt, so the glass particles immediately and quietly nestled in with the other dirt. Bottom line, as long as the dust cup isn't completely empty, there shouldn't be much noise at all.
