I've never encountered the problem you describe. All vacuums will necessarily have an exhaust, and my old Kenmore upright that uses bags would do exactly what you described--however, I haven't noticed that happening with my Shark. Be sure to empty the "tube" regularly for best function. Dust on shelves, etc. builds up, so consider dusting shelves on a regular basis to avoid this problem that could occur with any vacuum exhaust.
