• No, once the seal is compromised the vacuum suction is diminished.

• Wow, I haven't had that happen to mine. If you still have a warranty, or extended warranty, get it taken care of asap. Without proper seal, I would think "stuff" will be escaping back into the air, thus, losing the effectiveness of your Sharp.
