Using the "floor" mode uses suction only on non-carpeted areas. And it really sucks up dog hairs on both carpets and floors. It is really easy to remove hair from the carpet brush, because the hair wraps around individual sections of the brush making it easy to pull off sections of hair. It took Less than 10 minutes to clear all the hair from the brush. I did not need to open the floor brush or use any special tools. On my old vacuum, the dog hair and even my hair would wrap around the brush and stop the roller from turning and cause the vacuum to stop working. The only negative is the 30 foot cord can be a little awkward at times to manage. But that is an issue with most vacuums with long cords. With several hundred reviews this machine got an average of 4.8 stars (almost 5). The room after I vacuumed smelled fresh and the carpet was very clean. I was shocked at the amount of dog hair that was sucked up!
