“Can tap water be used or does this iron require distilled water?”

• Yes, tap water works great with it! It won't hurt the iron as far as I can tell, seems to be working just fine. If you know your tap water has a lot of additives or deposits in it, you could try running it through a filter first if you want. But I haven't had any issues whatsoever using normal tap water.

• Always use distilled water. It doesn't cost much, at all. Tap water will leave minerals behing, regardless of manufacturer claims.
