Personally, I wouldn't use anything other than what is recommended for the product. It's possible that your idea could work, but would it be worth potentially damaging your product? I'm sure there's a YouTube video or online article floating around the internet about this. And if you contact the company, I can almost guarantee that they will just push you to use their product.
