The Sharp SMD2470ASY is designed specifically for a 24-inch base cabinet, which is the ideal standard size for this unit because its outer faceplate measures exactly 23 7/8 inches wide. While it will technically work inside a 27-inch cabinet, doing so is not recommended as it will leave large gaps on both sides requiring custom woodwork or filler strips to mask. Choosing a standard 24-inch cabinet allows the microwave face to overlap the frame perfectly for a clean, built-in look, provided your cabinet installer creates an internal opening cutout that is 22 1/8 inches wide, 15 9/16 inches high, and at least 23 1/2 inches deep.
