1080p and the TV can accept an attenna rather than cable to bring in local TV stations and programming. OTA -Over the Air digital signals will work and bring in High Definition signals but a digital antenna is needed. At worst , you can use a larger size paper clip that you can unfold and use as an antenna to get signals that have higher strength signaling . Sling TV (built in app and button) on the remote also offers those with high speed internet to not have need for cable bills. You can pay for apps with the smart TV this set includes. Some TV stations or networks do offer free signals (via internet needed set up with your existing Wifi signal) and they also offer pay televison. I have Sling TV for $ 20 per month and brings in 40 + TV stations. It would be necessary to have decent to good high speed internet via wifi to achive the true functioning and capability of the set. The picture quality is EXCELLENT
