Yes and Yes. you don't have to have cable, that is the point of being able to stream via Roku over the internet. These days, many primetime providers like HBO, STarz and so on also allow you to get subscriptions without having a cabel account. This is perfect for that too. I just use netflix and hulu and use all the other free channels. I pay for netflix and hulu, but i use those on all my TV's. I have a roku set up on every TV in the house. This is great because the Roku is built-in. You are essentially getting a 100 value built into the TV for HD support of roku shows. The picture on this TV is super. Bright and crisp. Colors right out of the box are perfect.

If u email Netflix or call explain which tv and they will be able to answer your question. Also there is an 800 number for Sharp. Sad part is Best Buy should be able to answer questions pertaining to the products they sell. But that would require product knowledge for the people who are employed from management.
