Yes it has digital audio out (optical) to go to amp and speaker I did not want to connect as I use it in an office environment and want to easily move to the patio. This way all I have to move is the little Direct wireless Gini and plug in. I would caution if you need external speakers for your function you might want to upgrade. The speakers for this small of a unit are 6 w (X2) and are a lot better than I found in others in this class of TV. I use for background sports and news while working not music or movies. I would never consider it for my main TV downstairs. It is just not manufactured for that purpose. Consider the purpose and relate to the product.
