You need the small remote to select your viewing preference and then you can use your other remote (from your tv provider or others)

No. I'd return it and get the 43" LG LED Smart TV instead. I bought this TV43" Smart Sharp/Roku for my grandma and the friend of family wanted to save himself $50 when I was paying for it. Don't ask, He doesn't make no sense. I will say I am also able to connect to WiFi and use my phone to type and search for things like a mouse cursor on screen. Just download the LG TV remote for the LG TV. Trust me it's worth the $50-$60 extra !
