No subscriber fees are associated with a ROKU account (although you will need to create an account). That said, individual "channels" that you voluntarily add to your ROKU channel lineup may involve paying a subscription fee. Examples include Amazon Prime (as a "channel" on ROKU) and Netflix. There are other channels that you can download to your ROKU that are free of charge. A lot of great content can be found on PLUTO, for example, and that does not require pay-for-access. ROKU doesn't double as a DVR, however, so it's not a substitute for your TiVo service or similar.
